Sgt. Pepper's Pizza

This desert-infused specialty pie was the inspiration behind our Holiday 2021 Pizza Box. Loaded with savory, drizzled with some sweet and sprinkled with a little heat, you’ll never order plain ol’ pepperoni again.

Special thanks to Over The Counter AZ for dreaming up such an amazing pizza and sharing your recipe with us!

Takes: 1-2 hours for dough to rest; 30 minutes to prepare and cook pizza

Makes 2 12-inch pies

Dough

  • Hayden Flour Mills Pizza Dough (pizza flour and dough recipe included on box, use box ingredients and instructions to make two dough balls needed for this recipe) Note: if you don’t have access to Hayden Flour Mills Pizza Dough, use your favorite dough recipe or buy pre-made dough and skip these steps!

    Toppings

  • 4 tbsp Queen Creek Roasted Garlic Olive Oil, divided

  • 3 cups shredded Italian cheese blend, divided

  • 6 oz cooked Italian sausage, divided (optional, not included in box)

  • 1/4 cup of Los Roast New Mexico Roasted Green Chiles

  • Drizzles of Mike's Hot Honey

  • Pinches of Desert Provisions Hatch Green Chile Salt

  • Pinches of Desert Provisions Crushed Hatch Green Chile Flakes

Make pizza dough according to Hayden Flour Mills box instructions (included in Holiday 2021: Host Box) or use pre-made pizza dough or your own favorite recipe. Be sure to use Sonoran Sea Salt when making your dough! At Step 5 follow these instructions:

Add toppings: Using a basting brush, spread a thin layer of roasted garlic olive oil on the entire surface of your flattened pizza dough to evenly coat (about 2 tbsp for each pie).

Add 1.5 cups cheese and 3 oz cooked sausage (optional) to each pie.

Evenly distribute 1/4 cup green chiles to each pie.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until crust is crispy and cheese is bubbly and starting to brown. (Form second dough ball into pizza crust and add toppings while first pie is cooking.)

Remove first pie from oven and let cool for 5 minutes.

Drizzle Mike's Hot Honey and pinches of Desert Provisions Hatch Green Chile Salt and Crushed Green Chile Flakes over entire pie.

Bake second pie for 8-10 minutes as directed above.

Serve hot!

Cook's notes: We recommend using a pizza stone if you have one to cook the pie. Heat your oven to 500 degrees with the stone inside, and put the pizza directly on the stone to cook. But, if you don’t have a pizza stone, no worries. Place your pie on a flat baking sheet or round pizza sheet in the oven...or even directly on the grate of a hot grill!
